When the Meter Reader presses the key to record a meter reading, Meterphone captures the GPS (Geographic Positioning System) coordinates, latitude and longitude, of the location. This means that exact meter location can be captured incidentally during the normal meter reading process. Establishing meter latitude and longitude is currently very expensive.
If the water system operations include more than one meter reader, GPS information is very useful to confirm that the meter reader was at the correct location when reading a meter.
The MeterPhone captures the date, time, meter reader ID, and location of each meter reading. This information is transferred to the office at least once each hour. Reports of this collected information would essentially be a job performance report for the meter reader. He does not even have to come to the office.
